How to create a Fiverr gig that gets orders, covering the private 1-10 Success Score and the minimum of 5 needed for Level 1

Most new Fiverr gigs never receive a single order. The usual explanation — “too much competition” — is wrong often enough to be worth challenging. In most cases the gig itself is the problem: too broad, badly titled, wrongly categorised, and priced as though the buyer’s only concern is cost.

There’s also a structural reason beginners struggle now that didn’t exist a few years ago, and most guides still haven’t caught up with it. Fiverr no longer judges you only on the reviews buyers can see.

How Fiverr Actually Ranks Gigs in 2026

Fiverr assigns every gig a Success Score from 1 to 10. It’s private — you see it, buyers don’t — and it’s calculated per gig, then rolled up into your account.

Two features of it matter enormously for beginners:

It includes things reviews don’t show. Private buyer feedback submitted after an order, how often clients request revisions, cancellation patterns and communication quality all feed into it. A gig can hold five-star public reviews and still carry a Success Score of 4.

It’s relative, not absolute. Fiverr compares you to other sellers in your price range. A $10 seller is measured against other $10 sellers. Being cheap doesn’t lower the bar — it changes who you’re measured against.

Your Success Score also gates promotion: Level 1 requires at least 5, Level 2 at least 7, and Top Rated at least 9. Levels matter because higher ones get more visibility, and because buyers can filter search results to exclude new sellers entirely.

Level 1 currently requires roughly 60 active days, five or more completed orders from at least three different buyers, $400 or more in earnings, a strong star rating and a healthy response rate. Evaluation now happens daily rather than monthly, so you can level up within a day of hitting the final threshold. There’s also a 30-day grace period before demotion if a metric slips.

Check your standing under Growth & Marketing → Level Overview in your dashboard. Most sellers never open this page.

Step 1: Narrow the Service Until It Feels Too Narrow

This is the decision that determines everything else.

“I will design a logo” competes with hundreds of thousands of gigs. “I will design a minimalist logo for skincare and wellness brands” competes with a handful, and can charge four times as much because the buyer immediately recognises themselves in it.

Narrow gigs also convert better, which the algorithm rewards directly. Broad gigs attract browsers; specific gigs attract buyers.

Step 2: Write the Title Using Fiverr’s Own Search Data

Don’t guess what buyers type. Open Fiverr, start typing your service into the search bar, and read the autocomplete suggestions — those are real, high-volume buyer searches.

    The reliable structure:

I will [exact service buyers search for] for [specific niche]

    • I will edit short form videos for fitness coaches
    • I will write SEO blog posts for SaaS companies
    • I will design Shopify product pages for supplement brands

Put the keyword phrase early. Avoid filler like “professional,” “high quality” and “fast delivery” — every competitor claims those, so they carry no information and waste the characters that could carry a keyword.

Step 3: Get the Category and Metadata Right

Choose the most specific subcategory available, then complete every metadata field Fiverr offers — service type, style, tools, file format. These fields power Fiverr’s filters. A buyer narrowing results by “Adobe Premiere Pro” will simply never see a gig that left the tool field blank, no matter how good it is.

This step takes two minutes and is skipped constantly.

Step 4: Use All Five Tags, Specifically

Tags should extend your reach, not repeat your title. If the title says “short form video editing,” your tags should cover related searches: reels editing, tiktok editor, youtube shorts, capcut editing, video editor.

Single relevant words and tight phrases beat long strings.

Step 5: Design a Thumbnail That Earns the Click

Your thumbnail determines click-through rate, and click-through rate feeds ranking. Rough working benchmarks quoted by experienced sellers put a healthy gig around 8–15% CTR and 3–8% conversion, though these vary by category.

    What works:

    • Show the actual output — the edited video frame, the designed page, the finished logo
    • Three to five words of text maximum, large enough to read on a phone
    • High contrast, since most buyers browse on mobile
    • A consistent visual style across all three images

What doesn’t: stock photos of laptops, your own face if your face isn’t the product, and text so small it vanishes in the grid.

    Step 6: Add a Video

A short gig video — 45 to 75 seconds, showing the work rather than describing it — is one of the highest-leverage additions available, and it’s consistently reported to lift conversion substantially. Most beginners skip it, which is precisely why it’s an advantage.

You don’t need to appear on camera. A screen recording of your process with clean captions works fine, and Canva or CapCut are enough to produce it.

Step 7: Structure the Description for Skimming

Nobody reads a wall of text. Use this order:

    1. One line naming the buyer’s problem. “Your Reels are getting views but no watch time.”
    2. What you deliver, as a short bulleted list
    3. Why you specifically — one or two sentences, concrete, no adjectives
    4. What you need from them to start
    5. A clear next step — “Message me before ordering so I can confirm scope”

That last line does real work. It increases messages, and clarifying scope before an order is the single best defence against revisions and cancellations — both of which damage your Success Score.

Step 8: Price in Three Tiers

    Package Purpose Beginner pricing
    Basic Low-risk entry point $10–20
Standard The one most buyers choose $30–60
Premium Makes Standard look sensible $80–150

Design Standard as the intended purchase and price the other two around it. Keep the differences concrete — number of revisions, delivery time, quantity — rather than vague quality tiers.

Price low deliberately for your first five orders. You’re buying reviews, not income. Then raise prices, remembering that your Success Score is measured against sellers at your price point.

Step 9: Fill the Gig FAQ and Requirements

The gig FAQ answers objections before they cost you the sale — turnaround, revisions, file formats, source files. The requirements section prevents the most common cause of late delivery, which is waiting on a buyer who didn’t know what to send.

Both directly protect your delivery metrics.

Step 10: Protect Your Score From Day One

Early behaviour matters more than most beginners realise, because the Success Score starts accumulating immediately.

    • Reply within an hour. Response rate is measured over 60 days. Turn on mobile notifications.
    • Clarify scope in writing before accepting. Almost every cancellation traces back to a vague brief.
    • Deliver early. Always.
    • Never cancel to avoid a bad review. Cancellations hurt more than a four-star rating does.
    • Ask for the review. Most satisfied buyers simply forget.

    What Each Element Actually Affects

Gig element What it drives Time to fix
Title and tags Whether you appear in search 10 minutes
Category metadata Whether you survive filters 2 minutes
    Thumbnail Click-through rate 1 hour
    Video Conversion rate 2 hours
Description and FAQ Conversion, fewer revisions 45 minutes
Packages Average order value 20 minutes
Response time Success Score, level progress Ongoing

    Frequently Asked Questions

How many gigs should a beginner create?

Start with one, done properly, and reach five to seven once you understand what converts. Each gig targets a different buyer search, so several specialised gigs cover more ground than one broad one — but seven weak gigs beat nothing and lose to one strong one.

How long before a new gig gets its first order?

Typically two to six weeks with an optimised gig and active messaging. New gigs receive a short visibility boost when published, so having everything finished before you hit publish matters more than people expect.

What is a good Fiverr Success Score?

Five or above qualifies you for Level 1, seven for Level 2, and nine for Top Rated. Because the score is relative to sellers in your price bracket, raising prices as you improve changes your comparison group.

Should I use AI tools in my Fiverr gigs?

Yes, but disclose it. Many successful gigs are explicitly AI-assisted and buyers actively seek them out. Selling AI output as fully manual work without disclosure risks your account.

Why does my gig have impressions but no orders?

Impressions without clicks is a thumbnail problem. Clicks without orders is a pricing, description or review problem. The two failures have different fixes, so check which one you actually have before changing anything.

Can I edit a gig after publishing?

Yes, though heavy editing can temporarily disturb ranking. Change one element at a time and give it a fortnight before judging the result.

    Before You Publish

Run through it once: is the service narrow enough that a specific buyer recognises themselves, does the title match a real autocomplete search, is every metadata field filled, do the images show actual output, is there a video, does the description name a problem in its first line, and are the three packages meaningfully different?
